Happy National Day of the American Cowboy!

Ever since getting here to Dallas, we've wanted to take a trip to the Fort Worth Stockyards and we finally got the chance to do it yesterday.  As it so happened, it was also the National Day of the American Cowboy yesterday too and the stockyards had some special events planned too.  Unfortunately we weren't able to do everything, but here's some of the highlights from yesterday.

One of the big things we wanted to do was see the Texas Longhorn cattle drive.  They do it twice daily and Joseph loves cows, so it seemed like a perfect fit.  However, with the National Day of the American Cowboy, it turned into a parade!  The only problem was Joseph was rather impatient for them to start- but that's nothing new.  Here's our restless boy.

As they were about to start, a Texas Ranger came down the street to welcome everyone.

Then they started with the cattle drive.

Another favorite of Joseph was the mounted police.

They also had a stage coach.

A covered wagon.

A Texas Cadillac- it's hard to see the long-horns on the front, but they are there.

And some Joseph-sized carriages.

The parade was a lot of fun and Joseph really enjoyed it- he even started pointing at the horses and saying yee-haw.

The other highlight of our visit was the petting zoo.  He was fascinated by the animals, but was very cautious about getting too close.  So, Jodie volunteered to show Joseph how to feed the animals.

He thought it was the funniest thing watching the goats chow down on the feed.

Joseph really enjoyed it.

We also got to see a baby camel too.
