The Battle Continues...

Mark and I are yet to fight or have a fight or even feel mad at each other...and we hope we can still say that in thirty years from now! But there is one disagreement that has lasted almost since day one- we call it the Argentina vs. Brazil battle!
For those of you who may not know, Mark served a mission in Argentina, I served one in Brazil....

Mark thinks Spanish is the "celestial language" and Portuguese is simply speaking Spanish with "rocks in your mouth." I know Portuguese is the celestial language and is definitely much prettier than Spanish. (no bias there, right) Although I will give Mark this- Argentine Spanish is probably the prettiest dialect I have heard....it's also the closest to Portuguese. :)

Portuguese is also the more pure of the two languages. They are both romance languages derived from Latin...Portuguese is much closer to Latin than Spanish- hence the reason those who speak Portuguese can understand Spanish, but it doesn't work the other way around. (Of course Mark still disputes the credibility of this claim.)

Mark also thinks Argentina is the best place to serve a mission- I think Brazil is.

We do, however, agree that South America is the best continent to serve a mission. And we enjoy being neighbors in our battle.

We try to be very civilized in our disputes...

....until the World Cup. We occasionally can be found with our jerseys on around the house these days. I have even hidden Mark's Argentine flag in the past...and played Brazil's National Anthem loud and clear for him to enjoy.

Both teams are holding on strong...this next week will be a very telling week. And all I can say is, Brasil better not get beaten by Argentina...I will NEVER live it down. If one will go, we hope they both go at the same time. Viva Brazil! For Mark, Aguante Argentina!
