Locks of Love...takes Lots of Love

When I was about 9 or 10 years old I was diagnosed with telogen effluvium- hair loss which is usually a result of some kind of traumatic event. Well, I never had the trauma part...but I definitely had the hair loss. I lost my hair consecutively for about 3 months- feeling sick to my stomach as chunks of my hair would come out at a time. The doctors told me I would only lose up to 60%...but that's a lot of hair to part with. Anyways, as a result of my hair loss, my long full hair was now long, scraggly and stringy hair. I couldn't bare to part with my hair- I have had long hair my entire life. But my mom and dad felt the need to cut my hair as it looked so unhealthy and was only getting worse. They took me in the garage for what I thought was going to be a routine 1" trim....which was traumatic for me alone- maybe my haircuts were the onset of me losing my hair!?! Anyways, when my mom made the cut and I saw how much she cut, I screamed! My hair was to my butt when I entered the garage and as I ran out yelling "I hate you" to my poor mom, it was at my shoulder blades. I remember going to my room and crying for a long time. My mom came in to comfort me and I just told her I hated her and would never talk to her again. Well, we talk at least daily so that didn't hold true...but what did hold true is how sensitive I am about my hair.

Well recently my hair had gotten back down toward my butt. It was getting to the point that I needed to cut it badly. I heard about Locks of Love needing donations and woke up Saturday morning feeling generous. I had Mark measure out the minimum 10" about 15 times as I made my decision...before and after I made my appointment. I was a nervous wreck...but I kept thinking it was for a good cause and it didn't measure above my shoulders so it should be fine.

Well, here's me right before we left....

When I got to the salon, the lady measured it all out and pointed to a couple inches below my shoulders. I was ready....well in the end...she lied! It's definitely not a couple inches below...but no turning back now. Hopefully I will be able to help someone feel more pretty! :)

Me about a foot later....

My certificate of appreciation...

Well, I will never wonder if I want short hair again...I am anxious to see how fast my hair can grow now! :)

A side note...I have been nagging Mark to get a table and chairs on our patio so we could eat outside and spend some time in the nice weather. We finally got one!! Here's a pic of Mark this morning for breakfast. I love being out in the nice morning breeze hearing the birds sing as we sit, talk, relax, and eat at the beginning of our day. Love it! :)

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHAD! :)
