Halloween, the zoo, and snow

So, before getting into November, I need to add one last additional note to Jodie's last post- her Halloween dinner.  So, every year, Jodie makes a special Halloween themed dinner.  This year, she started out in reverse order and made dessert first- cupcakes.

Joseph definitely enjoyed his afternoon snack.

For dinner, we had a mix of nachos/taco salads.  First, here is Jodie's dinner- a witch.

Mine was a ghost.

Chad's was a jack-o-lantern.

Joseph also had a jack-o-lantern.

It was a very delicious meal and very fun for Halloween- Joseph especially enjoyed it.

For our Halloween costumes, we decided to borrow some of Chad's "toys" and dress up as Dr. Joseph's patients.

Now, onto November.  The start of the month has been a rather fun and exciting time for all of us- but especially for Joseph.  Over the past few weeks, Joseph is really starting to explore and interact with the world around him in a way he never has before.  He's learned how to sign "please" and "thank-you", which has significantly improved his screaming.  He has also learned some of his animals, most notably  a dog, cow, horse, goat, and sheep.  While he still can't say their name, he will mimic the sound that they make- the sheep is the most hilarious.  It's just "bah-ah-ah-ah-ah".  A few days ago, we were at the mall walking around and he saw a picture of a lamb and he spent the next 5 minutes saying "bah-ah-ah-ah".

We also had a surprise visit from my mom for an overnight stay.  We had a lot of fun reading a new book about dogs.

Catching and blowing bubbles.

And going to the zoo!

For a little while, we've been wanting to take Joseph to the zoo because of his interest in animals.  One of the first things that we saw were the elephants- Joseph was happy and content watching the mommy and baby elephant.

Another really fun thing was the gorillas.  This gorillas was very interested in Joseph- he came from across the room and sat down in front of Joseph and just watched him.  When Joseph left, the gorilla looked around for him and then left to the other side of the room again.  Maybe he was curious by his size.

We also got see some sea lions playing around in the water.

They also had a baby giraffe- it was only 6 weeks old.  Joseph also really enjoyed watching the baby giraffe and didn't want to leave.

Although it was a short, we really enjoyed having a visit from my mom and had a lot of fun hanging out.

So, just over a week ago, we had our first big snow storm of the year- 8 inches within 24 hours at our house.  In the middle of the storm, I decided to come home early from school and go play in the snow with Joseph.  Here's our little snowman.

Joseph was in heaven, much to our dismay.  Since that time, he would grab his coat, try to put it on, and knock on the back door and signing "please".  He really enjoyed waddling around in the snow, as long as it wasn't too deep, then he started asking to be picked up.

We spent some time learning how to throw snowballs.  We still need to spend some more time on this.

Despite my aversion to snow/winter, we had a really good time playing out in the snow; Joseph slept really good that night.

The next morning after the storm stopped, we had some cleaning up to do.  Luckily, I had a little helper.

Joseph loved playing with the snow shovel and did a rather decent job helping out.

Again, Joseph slept really well during his nap Saturday from working so hard- it was awesome.
