This has been our first spring in Texas and it has been a lot of fun. Some of the typical crazy weather, but still much nicer than our previous ones in Utah. Here are some of the highlights from the past couple months.
We'll start off with our two Valentines. One of the best parts of Maile getting older is seeing how much these two have with each other. She will happily play all of Joseph's favorite games and copy all of his sound effects.
Overall, the winter weather has been pretty mild. The worst of it has mostly been during March; coming in and out like a lion. One of the biggest events was an ice-storm that covered everything with a layer of ice. To make the most of the situation, we decided to go outside to explore and have some fun. Here is Joseph ready to brave the cold.
We hadn't bought any snow pants for Maile this winter, so she got to use Joseph's old pants.
She would have made a perfect Randy from A Christmas Story.
Here is what the ice looked like. Just enough to prevent you from going anywhere...
Unless you're on a sled. Jodie was the first to brave the ice.
However, it didn't take long for Joseph to ask for a turn.
Here they come!
One of the big things this Winter/Spring is that Maile finally has some teeth. She has been dying to eat what we're eating and she's totally taking full advantage of her four teeth. Very commonly, we'll find her sitting on the stool like this, just happily munch on something.
I wish I could have gotten a video of this next picture. One morning, Joseph started playing his toy lion and bear and his imagination went into full throttle. The bear and lion were talking to each other about everything, e.g. where they should go, what they should eat,... It was really fun to witness.
Much like her brother, Maile has really been getting into books lately. However, she tends to like abridged versions, sometimes even just the first and last page. Frequently, we'll find her quietly reading when she wakes up in the morning and from her naps. If we take the books out, she will even reach through the slats in the crib and grab a couple. Such was the case for this picture.
One of Joseph's favorite pastimes is having a pirate sword fight. So, one morning when he challenged me to a duel, I decided to get out my ponchos. Mommy helped us find some proper shields too.
The funniest part of the sword fight was when Joseph ran into my office, closed the door, and yelled, "I trapped you! You can't out!" Jodie and I got a pretty good laugh from it.
Neither one of our kids had much hair when they were born. However, we are very fortunate that Maile's hair is coming in much faster than her brothers. It is even long enough for pigtails now.
A few days before Easter, we decided to decorate some eggs. Here we are waiting to get ready.
Joseph was very excited about the idea of dying the eggs. We decided to increase the number of baths to account for his enthusiasm.
Here he is hard at work decorating his egg. What would a three year-old choose, you might ask- railroad tracks and a shark (with some help from Daddy). After that, he lost interest and wanted to get into the dyes.
On the other hand, Maile would have been content drawing on the eggs all night long.
On Easter morning, Jodie made us all a special breakfast. You can tell it was a hit because neither one of the kids was interested in putting the food down for the picture.
Afterwards, we had an indoor Easter egg hunt. It had rained the night before and the grass was still wet.
After the egg hunt, the kids had to go find their baskets. Joseph was more than willing to assist his sister in finding her basket.
However, when it was his turn, it took a little longer to find his own basket.
While her brother was busy, Maile stayed true to her nature; she asked for help putting on her new shoes and grabbed one of Joseph's toy snakes and started saying, "Ssss."
