Just kickin' back and enjoying some ice cream.
Another treat that Joseph likes are cookies, especially Oreos. They are a great reward/bribe.
Like a true Brems boy, Joseph is getting into electronics early. He can easily navigate an iPod or iPhone and pick out his own apps or movies- it is really rather impressive to see him go. As you can see below, he's starting to understand the computer better, such as using the track pad. However, we still get frustrated when the computer screen doesn't respond to him pushing on it with his finger.
One of the things that we really wanted to do while we were in Phoenix was go to the zoo. It has been a long time since I've been there and we thought it would be a lot of fun for Joseph.
One of the first things that Joseph was intrigued by was the tortoises. One was even having a race with a rabbit and I couldn't help but grab a picture.
One of all our favorites was the squirrel monkey walk through exhibit. You got to go inside with them and see them playing around. Not surprisingly, Joseph was the first to spot one and he started making monkey noises; it took Jodie and I several more minutes to find him. Anyway, he's the one that Joseph first saw.
Joseph really enjoyed the elephants too. As we got close, he pointed to one and started saying elephant and copying their noises. However, as we got close to the elephant, we were fortunate enough to have a pigeon land right between us and the elephant. Classically, Joseph immediately forgot about the elephant and started chasing the pigeon yelling "tweet tweet" at it.
Joseph really enjoyed watching the giraffes too.
We also spent some time around the Fisher Price kids area- it was really pretty cool. We got to see some of the barnyard animals that Joseph knows and loves, such as a cow. We also found a little wooden horse and saddle for Joseph.
We stopped to buy an icee to help cool down. He liked it until he saw some birds that he could chase...
Overall, we had a great time at the zoo and it was fun to see Joseph getting into the animals. He surely is growing up so quickly.
Towards the end of our trip, Grandpa taught Joseph how to clean the fish tank- Joseph thoroughly enjoyed doing it. The bottom three inches of the tank might have never been cleaner.
I also decided to teach Joseph how to wash the car- he did a great job managing the hose and rinse off.
While we had so much fun in Phoenix, the time had come to make our long jaunt to Dallas. We decided to break up the trip and spend the night in El Paso. On our second day, we made a pit stop in Midland and had a little picnic.
We all enjoyed relaxing in the grass and taking a break from the car.
However, it wasn't too long before Joseph reminded us of the inevitable. He grabbed the blanket, said "all pau", and started walking towards the car.
Finally, we made it to Dallas and spent the night with my aunt and uncle. In the morning, I couldn't help but laugh when I saw Joseph like this. It appears that in any bed size, he ends up sleeping all over the place.
When we got to our apartment, we first put Joseph in a pack and play. It worked well until he decided that he was too crowded and made some space. I think the only thing that managed to keep a place in the pack and play was mickey mouse.
So, we ended up Joseph a mattress and setting up a bed on the floor. He absolutely loves it and made the transition like a pro. Admittedly, one of my favorite memories since being here in Dallas was watching him groggily walk out of his room after the first night on the new bed; he had the biggest grin on his face and was so proud.
Because we have limited toys and furniture for the summer, we've had to become a little more creative with playtime and it has led to some funny moments. For example, one morning I saw Joseph load up his tricycle's trunk with Teddy Grahams. Interestingly enough, he rode the tricycle to a different room to eat his treat.
Or when he started playing with the computer like this...
Or one day I couldn't find my phone in its usual spot. Instead, this is where I found it- Joseph was playing his Fisher Price game in the bean bag chair.
Another fun thing for us was one night Joseph really got into our daily routine of scripture reading. Usually, he is more interested in doing his own thing. So, it was really fun to see him want to join us in reading.
He even know what to do afterwards...
In closing, here is another picture of Joseph's sweet tooth; Oreos and ice cream make a great reward for an almost two year old.
